UXmentor.me has been around and free for the last six years.

This has led to great growth – we’ve gone from just a handful of members to over 1300 from all across the world.

We want to continue to help as many people as possible, but we also want to create a community that offers valuelasting relationships and is sustainable.

What are you improving with UXmentor.me Plus?

A large, free community is great but it also comes with some issues:

  • People being scared to ask questions in front of a large group
  • Inactive or non-participating members
  • Harder for mentors to offer dedicated support
  • Different timezones mean useful conversations can be tough to follow

What will UXmentor.me Plus offer?

Initially we are looking to offer a few differences to the free community:

  • A much smaller private group based in the same timezone
  • A monthly Q&A with mentors Chris & Christina
  • Discounts for members on our UX projects
  • Local meetups
  • One on one mentorship

Why should I pay for UXmentor.me Plus?

Investing in your education is one of the best ways you can improve yourself as a UX Designer, Researcher and as a person.

We believe a strong and supporting community with the guidance of mentors adds real value to your growth as a UX Designer or Researcher.

Several of our previous mentees on our UX projects have managed to transition to the UX careers they have been seeking.

Basically, we think one on one mentoring in small groups is worth it.

When you are financially committed to something – even by a small amount – this is a way of holding yourself to account for your own learning which leads to better results.

When you pay for something, the buck stops with you. It’s up to you to get the value out of what’s being offered.

This leads to a more valuable and effective community where everyone is working towards the same goal of maturing as UX Designers and Researchers.

How are you going to test it?

We want to make sure we get the proposition right so we will initially be looking for 5 UK based members to join the program for 2 months and give us feedback on:

  • Payment
  • The proposition
  • The content

Can’t you just offer UXmentor.me Plus for free?

It might not at first be obvious but there are quite a few costs incurred in running our free Slack community.

We want to be around for the long term so it’s important to be transparent about some of the unseen costs that go into what we do here.

Here are just a few:

  • Web hosting and domain
  • Web development costs
  • Design and branding costs
  • Online tools to host events such as Ask Me Anything
  • Equipment to record podcasts and videos
  • Travel to speak to guests
  • Content production costs (Editing/post-production/transcription)
  • Our time

We love doing it of course, but we also need to make sure we are sustainable.

Charging a small monthly fee for Plus will enable us to both continue to support the free community and also provide additional benefits for Plus members.

Are you getting rid of the free Slack?

We want to make getting access to mentorship accessible and affordable.

We know the free Slack community still adds a lot of value to people and we have no plans to get rid of it.

UXmentor.me Plus is for those who want more help and support in a smaller group.

How do I get involved?
